Green Screen Launches, Turning Energy Debates Into Public Power

2025-12-03

The NMT Media Foundation and its partners today launched The Green Screen, a new hub that strengthens transparency and public engagement on Namibia’s green transition. The launch took place at the Foundation’s offices in Windhoek.

The platform will serve as a shared space for public interest journalism, research, and civil society dialogue on green growth, extractive industries, energy, and environmental governance. It will publish investigative work, policy analysis, and explanatory stories that help the public understand developments in these sectors.

In her remarks, EU Ambassador Ana Beatriz Martins highlighted the role of media and civil society in supporting informed debate on Namibia’s green industrialisation and emerging oil sector, noting the country’s growing prospects in this field. Project leads Peter Deselaers and Dickson Kasote also presented the mission of The Green Screen, including training support for journalists and researchers.

A panel discussion on transparency in the energy sector, moderated by editor Shelleygan Petersen, stressed the need for accessible information, accountability, and collaborative approaches.

The Green Screen forms part of the European Union funded Eco Dialogue Collective project, implemented by the NMT Media Foundation, DW Akademie, IPPR, and the Legal Assistance Centre. It will open to the public in January 2026, offering facilities and resources for research, media production, and skills development aimed at supporting accountable and sustainable development in Namibia.
