The NMT Media Foundation is excited to present the second report, “Emerging Issues in Digital Rights in Africa: A Discussion Paper for the African Declaration on Internet Rights and Freedoms (AfDec) Coalition”, which provides an in-depth analysis of the current and future challenges facing digital rights in Africa.

Written by renowned Nigerian digital rights activist, Edetaen Ojo, the report explores a wide range of emerging issues that are reshaping the digital landscape in Africa. These include algorithmic bias, data privacy, digital inclusion, and surveillance, highlighting the evolving needs of the continent as it undergoes rapid digital transformation.

The report emphasizes the necessity for the African Declaration to be updated to address these new challenges. By refining existing provisions and incorporating new principles, the AfDec Declaration can continue to guide stakeholders in advancing digital rights in an ever-changing environment.
