Another day, another celebration!

NXT Journalism Hub fellow Nelago Johannes is one of the most recent winners of ‘The Newsroom Challenge’. Nelago describes it as “a collaborative effort between AllAfrica and the ONE Campaign, aimed at addressing the pressing need for increased youth engagement with African issues through verified news from traditional media outlets”.

The competition was accessible to youth aged between 18 and 35 from across the 54 African countries. The challenge was inspired by initiatives such as the ‘Africa Free Trade Continental Agreement’ and the UN Sustainable Development Goals for Agenda 2030.

Participants were tasked with devising creative and disruptive ideas to digitally improve youth engagement with mainstream news media. The challenge emphasized the use of the internet, mobile platforms, computer-assisted reporting, augmented reality, and other electronic means to achieve maximum impact.

In our most recent NXT pop-up podcast episode featuring Nelago, she passionately delves into the specifics as she provides a detailed background of her journey from her days as an NXT podcast trainee to her podcast now gaining continental recognition.

Don’t miss out! The episode will be released soon. Keep your eyes glued to our socials for further information!
